Our new Monday runs are proving to be a success....we have nearly as many runners turn up on a Monday as we do on Wednesday's, which us great and for the last 6 weeks we had a new attender every week...we are just growing & growing :)

There's another Sunday run this weekend (7th) meeting at the Pavilion at 9.15am, a little bit later than usual as Alan's can't make 8 o/c - I'm not complaining and might even attend this one!!

We will be running the Tuddenham route, but keeping to the roads this time. This will make it a bit further, between 7 -7.5 miles - That will certainly kick start your Sunday!!!

And Sunday morning are FREE :)

On another note, a few people have said they can't write comments on here...I know absoluting nothing about blogs, infact it's probably me that's messed it up....but we'll get it sorted :)

Challenge...GO Team!

...the challenge, no it's not olympic weight lifting but I think a few of us might be pulling those faces in the run up to the Cambridge half marathon. Grimacing in the cold winter months, but goodness we will feel a sense of achievement afterwards. Plus my thinking is we will burn of that christmas turkey much quicker.

So I think we are verging on 15 sign up's to the Cambridge half marathon. Woooo crazy, but great effort and it will be great for us to train together and to have a goal in sight. I am actually a little giddy with excitement with it.

Last night's 'effort' work, the evening which was a little cold (and we haven't even got past October yet) and well my legs... a little sore but hey i thought it was fun. I think from Alan's explanation that type of training helps us push ourselves as we have a shorter distance to run.

In other news...

Alan is meeting at the Pavilion on Sunday at 8am for a rough 6-7 miler if anyone's interested. I am slightly tempted. Nic, Kerry, Rachel and I are doing the Cambridge Parkrun on Saturday, if anyone is interested comment below. This is a 5k route.

Anyway I better shoot only 30mins for lunch. Mikaela x

Cambridge half marathon in aid of cancer research

Hello there my fellow runners,

I posted on here earlier in the week about the 10k Bonfire burn race in Histon on the 6th November and I think a few members are up for it. Well another run has come to my attention, the Cambridge Half Marathon 2012. The run takes place on 11th March 2012 and the official charity is Cancer Research UK. It's the first half marathon to take place in cambridge for 17 years.

It starts out on Victoria Avenue, taking in some of Cambridge's beautiful landmarks, including the River Cam and Kings College, and cross over the finish line into Midsummer Common.

I'm not entirely sure if I'm off my rocker for considering it, but I want a goal to work towards and how great would it be! Soooo just wondering what your thoughts were? I'd love it if a few people were interested and we could work towards something. I still want to speak to our main man Alan about it, but early discussions with the lovely Nikki Nash suggest I might be able to rope her into it.

Love to hear from you,

Commitee meeting tonight and 10k run!

Hi All,

Missed last nights run, hope to be raring to go tomorrow night? How did you get on?

Bit of news, there is a committee meeting tonight. I know it's short notice but if anybody has any discussion points do make a comment below or email me.

Also Theana posted on Facebook group last night about a run in Histon, Cambridge on the 10th November called rather appropriately the 'Bonfire Burn'. It's 10k and look's like a good run. I understand Theana has entered and wondered if anyone else is up for it? I think I am going to commit, I'd like something to work for.

Here's a link for more information...

Route for Wednesday 28th September 2011

Well it's getting dark, windy and there's a bit of a chill in the air.. but we will soldier on in our dedication... I hope!

So the plan for Wednesday is the Badlingham run...See the map below. This is a 5.5m route. Start at the pavilion and run towards Freckenham, then cut down the Badlingham road, across the farm, the bridge and towards the pub. Left at the pub back up the main road and back towards the pavilion.

Then a slightly shorter route is roughly 2.7m and please see route below. This can start with the longer runners, running towards Freckenham and then turn down towards the scrap yard. Over the bridge to the pub, but turn right here, cross the road to the other scrap yard, past the new development, up past the nursery to Warren road and back to the club.

Any queries please comment below!!!

New Shoes...No not heels, trainers!

Howdy Guys…
So I’ve had a great day today, actually so much fun. I went for a shopping splurge on running stuff, after months of Alan telling me off for having such bad trainers… (and they really were bad, I was quite embarrassed by them) I went armed with my birthday pennies prepared to spend.
So first off I went to ‘The Sweat Shop” in Cambridge (located at David Lloyd Gym). I went there because I had a £15 off trainer’s vouchers from doing my first Cambridge Parkrun.
(They give each new attendee a voucher). I did really want to go and support the independent specialist running shops such as ‘Runnability’ in Bury St Edmunds, but due to being a poor Junior Designer I was sold on the voucher. Next time, promise!!!
Anyway back to the matter in hand I also wanted the ‘Motion Analysis’ on my running (which both shops offer). It was great; if you’ve not had it done I would highly recommend it. They put me in a pair of neutral trainers and I ran on a treadmill at my own pace while they videoed me. After, they showed me the video, slowing it down to indicate the direction of my foot and what kind of runner I am. It turns out I am slightly pronate (see picture). You can see the ankle and ultimately the leg rolls inwards. This is quite common (I’m told).

I also apparently turn the front of my foot inwards…this is RARE! As I am. I have visions of me looking like Phoebe from friends running now, so if you see me…don’t laugh.

To the important stuff... From this the super helpful shop assistant Will brought out 3 pairs of trainers for me to try. A pair of Nike LunarEclipse, Mizuno and the well known Asics. After trying them on and having the motion sensor, the best support for me and my pronation were by far the Nike LunarEclipse, they have great support and were so comfortable. I then went on the tredmil and after the video playback showed with split screen the comparison between the first ‘neutral’ shoe and the Nikey’s and it was so noticeable.
So guys and gals let’s hope I’m suddenly a great runner ha ha, although I can’t imagine trainers will solve my stitch problem.
In conclusion SweatShop at Cambridge were great and I would highly recommend it. After coming home I suddenly realised I should of asked for the video’s to show you all but unfortunately by the time I had called and after a very busy Saturday my video’s were no more. But Will welcomed me back to try again absolutely free of charge no obligation…as they always do.
Also if anyone wants a £15 voucher for shoes I have another going spare, or alternatively take part in the Cambridge ParkRun!!!
 See you next Wednesday

Hi All

Would anyone be interested in running on Mondays nights? Alan has suggested doing an extra night in case some people can't make Wednesday's... if your interested leave a comment and I'll keep you posted.

Kennet/Bridge End Run

Hi there Runners,

Here's the route for Wednesday the 21st September. It's the Kennett route that regulars have done before and it totals around 5.5 miles.

The second route is 2.7 miles. Running down Green lane, turn left at the pub up Heath Farm road, over the bridge back on to the Freckenham road and ending at the Pavilion.

Also a bit of news... Alan told us about a 5mile run on Sunday 16th October at 11am, through Brandon country park. I think a few of us fancied it, so maybe we could share lifts. Let us know your thoughts, by leaving a comment below. Here is a link to the 'Brandon Fern Hoppers' website where you can find more information regarding it.

Run tonight

Hey there fellow runners… so that new trainer buying session I was excited about never happened. It might have been a post birthday celebrations hangover that resulted in me certainly not feeling like going to run on a tredmill, but next week I promise. Just hope my battered numbers can last the run we have planned tonight, with the big 6 to 7 miler. I just can't wait to go shopping this weekend and kit myself out for this great hobbie, think i might need a winter running wardrobe.

Tonight's run has been mapped out and if you click on the link on yesterday's post you can see it in detail.

On a final note if anyone has any suggestions for new routes they are very welcome. And we invite you to suggest them!

Friday, 9 September 2011

Hello, and as Nikki says we are the Blogger Joggers of Red Lodge!

Soooo 1st post. I’ll start off with this lovely picture of some of the team. A not too scary bunch!!

We’ve set up this blog to keep all you visitors to the club up to date with what’s going on. So this might be runs that we have coming up, in the up and coming weeks or new events we have planned. Or what trainers to buy… which I am doing this weekend might a add. Never thought I would be so excited by a new pair of trainers. I’m hoping it will make me one crazy speedy lady.

For all you new runners... welcome and we really are a friendly bunch. We welcome a variety of levels and there is always someone to run with.

A bit of background: the club was originally set up by Alan and Jenny in the Summer 2010. Jenny and Alan are what I deem ‘expert’ runners, basically they have a wealth of experience and guidance. Their passion for running really does infuse and inspire you as individuals and the club. We are a sort of self run club in that we have a lot of individuals getting involved and helping. At present we have 25 members with regular new visitors. We don’t stipulate you have to come every week, we know that sometimes life gets in the way, but every Wednesday at 6.15pm there will always be a group meeting for a Run. Predominately we meet at the Red Lodge Pavilion, but in the future we might have new starting places so we see this blog as a way of keeping you up to date with that.
